A clan on the rise, the highest circle of Giovanni vampires (the Anziani) are busily attending the clan founder, Augustus Giovanni, in his many and varied occult and political pursuits. Orders from them or, less often, Augustus himself are handed down to Yesugei, the city's Capo, who delivers the orders to the House of Giovanni, the clan's major family and only political force of note. Yesugei is a familial outsider, a Venetian trader of an ancient Mongol descent scooped up in the late 1200s to enable the global expansion of the clan's ambitions. He is fiercely loyal to the Anziani, even to the point of fanaticism.
The House of Giovanni is organized by the family's Nonna, Amina la Contarini Giovanni, who was married into the family centuries ago. Despite her mortal marriage tying the Giovanni family and clan to the Contarini, a founding family of Venice and ancient Italian nobility, it has also been the cause of her greatest political troubles. She has been known to blame the fact that she was not 'born' a Giovanni on her current title of Nonna, rather than what she considers her rightful place among the Anziani. A well practiced Necromancer, Amina was also a spectacularly educated practitioner of medicine in her mortal years. She strives to increase her political power, and runs the House of Giovanni with an iron fist, as each success might propel her toward her political ambition.
