This researcher found him self in a unique position along with some allies during an expedition into the Devils Isle out side of Venice. Being well outside of any Princes domain we found we had defeated some albeit Fledgling but lower Generation Nosferatu. As a devoted scholar of the Via Ossium, I set myself to the task of learning what the Final Death tastes like when a Cainites soul is drained over ones tongue.
In retrospect, I found there were five distinct moments during my knowledge gathering.
The first step is of course to get the creature into a position to drain their Vitae. In this, as an Enforcer, I found it easiest to get the creature in a Clinch, wrapping my arms around it and seizing my wrists together. After a quick squeeze to soften up the bones, I sank my teeth into the creatures neck.
The second step of being the act of draining the entirety of the creatures Vitae. This I found to be disgusting. This being my second draught of Nosferatu Blood, I was only barely prepared for the flavor. It had a taste of nightshade, black licorice and a hint of rosemary. I was able to power through the taste and finish the creature enough to put it into Torpor.
(Foot Note 1; My first draught was taken from a Nosferatu of extraordinary Piety to their Road. Feral Eyes was learned and helped massively during this expedition.. )
The Third step was to start the Drain. I felt her scream, cry and then silence. The silence should have concerned me because that was when her soul tried to take over my body. We struggled, a bit of back and forth. I finally came out of the conflict on top.
The Fourth step was and is personal, the attempt to draw out the entirety of her soul. In this I failed. I was only able to draw some of it. I shall endeavor to find another target to practice upon after some practice in my own self control.
The Fifth and final step, is why the act of Diablerie should be undertaken only periodically. With all of my research, though limited, it seems as though the act against Gods curse leaves stains. Not only the stain upon ones aura, which can be read by an intermediate in Auspex but also surprisingly an aura of dread that lingers. It upsets mortals and Kindred alike. They won't meet your eyes, they avoid your touch. A dreadful thing, especially for someone that needs to engage regularly in the soft touch of diplomacy for further leads on bigger targets.
(Foot note 2; I personally found that my Faith was touched quite deeply. The act left me bereft of our Lord Jesus Christs own grace. I find crosses and crucifixes abhorrent now, causing me to flee their sight in a moment of weakness. I now worship and find my faith in Dis Pater.)
And finally, the benefits of take the Last Draught. I did find myself a little Stronger and Faster, my ability to draw upon my Vitae reservoir has become deeper and more available. In addition I have a lingering suspicion that two additional disciplines are more accessible but I have yet to delve to further into such studies.
All of this, I put ink to paper to better fill the Libraries of House Palladio and Clan Giovanni so that my research may better enable our House and Clan to discover the truths of Death and bring our Progenitors vision to reckoning.
