One or about the night of February 6th, I had a chance encounter with what some call a Loup-Garou.
During the aforementioned eve, a Coterie mate and I along with a Toreador had set out on a simple quest to end the predatory actions of some bandits that had been disrupting trade from the mainland of Italia. After finding the camp of ruffians we set about to their destruction, the battle went fairly well and we had half of them slain when the Loup-Garou howled.
To assure that I place as much of my knowledge as possible within this Treatise, I will refer to the individuals using only their primary weapons. Henceforth the three involved will simply be referred to as Pollax, Cudgel and Sabre. This should hopefully remove any grandstanding that some authors tend to have in such a scholarly endeavor.
The Loup-Garou break through the tree line closest to Pollax and gave its first sight. What had been a young man of possibly 19 or so winters and roughly 5 and a half feet tall grew swiftly to twice that size. With black and brown patched fur it swung at Pollax who parried the unarmored creatures swipe. The blade of Pollax dug deeply into the Loup-Garous hide. With the arm still surprisingly intact and attached, the beast fought on.
Cudgel broke free from the now fleeing bandit and using Vampiric speed, he leapt and brought the Cudgel into the creatures shoulder. A Blow that would have crippled a mortal. The Loup-Garou instead stayed standing and through some sort of supernatural will, it not only stayed standing, but partially healed.
As the beast healed further with near Celeratic speed, It launched a claw at each of Pollax and Cudgel. Neither landed squarely enough for damage, with Pollax dodging and Cudgel catching the blow on a shield.
Finally Sabre joined the fray only to find a drastically weakened opponent. Taking advantage of the distracted monstrosity, he too leapt and his sword connected with ferocity. The beasts head severed and the body collapsing the band set out to the grisly work of draining the mortals to refill their Vitae. Pollax skinned with precision the Loup-Garou while Cudgel deftly removed claws and fangs as trophies and components.
When later asked if the group had gone monster-hunting it as explained that the team had simply been engaged in monster-surviving. A single missed dodge, block or parry would have been the end or serious maiming of the poorly defended person.
Although there are many myths as to how to slay a Loup-Garou, the swift conflict did not allow for much in the way of testing theorems. Silver has always been said to cause great harm to them, yet no one had any upon them. The use of Social disciplines has been proffered to subdue or defeat them and sadly no research on this could be done since the creatures head and eyes were no longer attached to the spinal cord.
Some post mortem details were discovered however, the creatures skin seems to be roughly as tough as an aged ox hide and would possibly be more durable than cow hide with the proper preparation. Its claws are mundane but make for terrifying trinkets. Once the chest was opened the heart seemed enlarged, assumedly to push more blood for the creatures speed and quick healing. The brain seemed slightly smaller but this could account for the thicker skull pan and a lack of need for higher thought.
All though the blood was not consumed, stories say that as long as the Vitae is in a Cainites blood stream the easier it is for the Beast to rear its ugly head.
This information is without doubt incomplete and further research will need to be done to gather weaknesses and flaws as to the monsters biology. Another potential Loup-Garou was spotted nearby, but no conflict came of it as it left and little will to combat another was to be found amongst the group.
All of this, I put ink to paper to better fill the Libraries of House Palladio and Clan Giovanni so that my research may better enable our House and Clan to discover the truths of Death and bring our Progenitors vision to reckoning.
